It’s hard to believe that it has been over a year since the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. Furthermore, by the end of the year, we will have the sure to be Oscar baiting Zero Dark Thirty, a factually accurate account of the operation from the filmmakers of The Hurt Locker. Casting announcements aside, Zero Dark Thirty has been shrouded in secrecy so far but today, we have our first look at the film with a minute long teaser trailer.
Not much is shown aside from graphics, with only brief glimpses of actors Kyle Chandler, Jennifer Ehle and Jessica Chastain accompanied by a voice over from Mark Strong. It’s a pretty neat tease of what to expect from the film, setting the tone perfectly and also suggesting that it will be as much about the corridors of power as it is about the on-the-ground action. This makes sense too, considering the unprecedented access Mark Boal and Kathryn Bigelow had to top secret military files in their research for the film.
Zero Dark Thirty promises to be more than just a companion piece to The Hurt Locker, it looks to be its own beast and could very well be on for some serious Oscar contention. The cast is impeccable, the filmmaking team behind the film are very assured and the subject matter is compelling.
Zero Dark Thirty opens on December 19th. You can check out the trailer below.
