Soon after the dust settled on the tragic events that unfolded during the Boston Marathon Bombing two years ago, the upper echelons of Hollywood fast-tracked numerous projects into development. One of which is the Jake Gyllenhaal-fronted drama, Stronger, which has now set its sights on Orphan Black starlet Tatiana Maslany for the leading role.
Variety has the news, noting that the actress has entered negotiations to board the starry vehicle as a participant in the race. Kate Mara and Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s Elizabeth Olsen had also been eyed for the coveted role, though the outlet reports that Maslany is close to inking a deal.
Helmed by David Gordon Green, Stronger will be based on the eponymous, heart-wrenching book penned by real-life survivor Jeff Bauman. He had been waiting at the finish line for his girlfriend, Erin Hurley (Maslany), when a pair of explosive devices were detonated, killing three and injuring close to 260 civilians – Bauman included.
For those of you who have laid eyes on Tatiana Maslany’s multi-faceted, scenery-chewing role (roles?) in Orphan Black, you’ll know that the actress’ rise to stardom is well deserved. Not only is the she now in contention to board a starry and timely feature in Stronger, but she also formed part of the star-studded shortlist for the female lead in Disney’s Star Wars: Episode VIII – losing out in the end to Beauty and the Beast‘s Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Alas, this isn’t the only time that the actress has flirted with a galaxy far, far away, considering that her name also cropped up before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story announced its cast of ragtag space pirates. With this in mind, it would appear that Maslany will commit to Stronger once the small print has been ironed out, and we have every confidence that her talent will flourish on the big screen.
