THR is reporting tonight that the cast of Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One has just grown a bit larger, as Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller has boarded the upcoming adaptation of Ernest Cline’s sci-fi novel. Joining a solid cast that already includes Tye Sheridan, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance and Olivia Cooke, Miller will step into the shoes of i-Rok, an “online forum troll” – a role he seems very well suited for.
For those unfamiliar with Cline’s work, Ready Player One revolves Wade Watts, “a gunter (a portmanteau of egg hunter) who is the first person to discover the first of three keys left behind by the late OASIS creator James Halliday. After Halliday’s death, a worldwide Easter Egg hunt ensues to find a hidden treasure that gives the discoverer control over OASIS—which, in this dystopian future, essentially means control over the world.”
Heading for a production start in late June, Spielberg’s latest currently has a released date pegged for March 30th, 2018. With any luck, we’ll start to see some set photos and hopefully a few official images begin to emerge in a month or two as shooting gets underway in earnest.
Until then, however, you can consider the cast of Ready Player One to be more or less complete, and given the names that Spielberg has assembled for the project, we’re definitely feeling optimistic about how this one is going to turn out.
