It didn’t take long for the casting of David Corenswet in Superman: Legacy to generate criticism. Replacing Henry Cavill as Clark Kent could never be taken for an easy task, but some of the concerns being raised online have proven futile, particularly those focusing on Corenswet’s physique.
Soon after the news was made public, Superman fans took to social media to share their opinions on the matter, claiming that Corenswet doesn’t have the muscles necessary to play the role. It seems as though the years spent watching Cavill bring the character to life got fans used to a certain body type, and they aren’t readily accepting of the change. What most fail to realize, however, is that Cavill wasn’t always the beefcake we see today.
In light of the situation, some DC fans have taken it upon themselves to share photos of Cavill during the test screenings for Man of Steel. Evidently, the actor’s appearance was very different from what we’ve all grown accustomed to, but with time and effort, he got there.
It’s likely, then, that Corenswet will have to undergo a similar process before filming for Superman: Legacy starts next year. For nay-sayers, though, even that might not be enough.
In recent days, folks have also taken to raising concerns about Corenswet’s ability (or lack thereof) to lead the DCU from now on, and even criticizing the fact that he looks like a younger version of Cavill. So, the actor looks either too much like his predecessor, or too little; whatever the case, Corenswet just can’t win.
