Looks like those negative reviews aren’t slowing down David Ayer’s Suicide Squad at the box office, as the film has now passed $500 million worldwide. If we’re getting into specifics, it now sits at $509 million globally, with $271 million of that coming from overseas and the other $238 million being generated here in North America.
“It is incredibly rewarding to see audiences around the world coming out in such a big way for Suicide Squad,” said WB President of Worldwide Distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg. “We have several major markets yet to open, and expect to continue seeing strong returns at the box office for the weeks to come.”
With the film still yet to open in some countries (such as Germany), it’s expected to keep bringing in a healthy amount of cash for Warner Bros. as we head towards the end of the month. Then again, seeing as it won’t release in China, it’s box office performance is going to be hurt quite a bit.
We estimate it will end up doing around $600 million, maybe a little less. Either way, the studio will no doubt be happy with the final numbers – especially given the fact that reviews weren’t very positive.
Suicide Squad is now in theatres and for our thoughts on it, be sure to check out our review.
