Looks like it’s one and done for Cara Delevingne and the DC Extended Universe…and we can’t say we’re surprised.
The Valerian actress played the part of June Moon (AKA The Enchantress) in 2016’s Suicide Squad, and quickly became the common enemy of Task Force X. A bloated script and clichéd dialogue arguably reduced Delevingne’s supernatural menace to a bland, wholly forgettable villain though, and that’s certainly disappointing, particularly when you consider her performances across Paper Towns and Face of an Angel.
But those holding out hope that Cara Delevingne will get another crack at the DCEU through Suicide Squad 2 needn’t bother; while doing the press rounds for Luc Besson’s Valerian, the model/actress told USA Today that she’s “pretty sure” her time playing June Moon/Enchantress has come to an end.
“It was a life-changing experience and of course I’d do another one, but I don’t think it would make sense for the character. I’ll probably still be on the set hanging out with everyone.”
The as-yet-untitled Suicide Squad sequel is currently in a state of flux. Last week, for instance, we brought you the news that Mel Gibson was no longer attached to Warner’s anti-hero sequel, which has now trained its crosshairs on Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows). A mid-2018 start date is reportedly on the cards, too, while the script penned by The Legend of Tarzan screenwriter Adam Cozad has been scrapped in favor of Zak Penn’s treatment, who is perhaps best known for his work on The Avengers and Steven Speilberg’s upcoming adaptation of Ready Player One.
Assuming Warner Bros. is able to get Task Force X back together in time for March 2018, it would certainly lend credence to those reports claiming that one of the studio’s newly-announced 2020 release dates belongs to Suicide Squad 2. One way or another, we’ll surely learn more about the ensemble movie at SDCC this coming weekend.
