Deadline is reporting that Steven Spielberg is hoping to cast actor Chris Hemsworth in his upcoming film Robopocalypse. The role is one that has been highly coveted and sought after by many of Hollywood’s top actors. But now, thanks to his star turn in films like Thor and The Avengers, Spielberg has chosen the Aussie actor to lead his next film.
Based on Daniel H. Wilson’s novel about “the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising,” the film was written by Drew Goddard, who directed Hemsworth in The Cabin in the Woods. Though there’s no official offer on the table just yet, Spielberg has met with Hemsworth and it’s just a matter of time before the star in the making signs on.
With Thor: The Dark World, The Avengers 2 and Snow White and The Huntsman 2 all in production, Hemsworth is about to see his star shine even brighter. Plus, now that he has a Spielberg film on his resume, his leading man status as just been legitamized even further.
I’ve always liked Hemsworth as an actor. His charm and charisma come through in all his roles and I really do think that he has talent. He’s more than just a pretty face.
His ascent to the A-list has been a quick one but it’s well deserved. Give him a few more lead roles like this and before you know it, he’ll be a household name, if he isn’t one already.
Watch out Hollywood, 2014 is going to be the year of Chris Hemsworth!
