Steven Soderbergh has chosen The Bitter Pill, a script written by Scott Z. Burns, as his next project to direct. From the sounds of things, it looks like Summit Entertainment has chosen it as well.
Final negotiations are underway for a green light commitment from the film studio. Deadline reports that Summit are the frontrunner for the script, which was not widely distributed. Other studios in the running were rumored to be David Linde’s Lava Bear and Paramount, along with a few private financiers.
The script centers around a women that has taken to heavy prescription drug use to cope with her husband’s pending release from prison.
Production on this psychological thriller is set to begin in April 2012 with a budget of around $30 million. Soderbergh will be at the helm, having signed on after The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was put on hold by Warner Bros over budget disputes and casting difficulties.
This will be mark the first collaboration between Summit and Soderbergh.
