Ever since those first images of Chris Pine on the set of Wonder Woman 1984 emerged last June, the question of how exactly Steve Trevor is back from the dead has remained an ongoing topic of speculation, but thanks to sources close to We Got This Covered, it seems we now have our answer.
After meeting a tragic end several decades prior in the events of the first movie, it’s said that Wonder Woman’s love interest is brought back to life by one Maxwell Lord, tying in with previous rumors that Pedro Pascal would assume the role of the DC villain. To elaborate, we’re told that Max is looking for magical artifacts that he believes will make him as powerful as a god, drawing on the help of archeologist Barbara Ann Minerva to do so. Kristen Wiig’s character is soon out for Max’s blood, however, after one of the artifacts curses her to become Cheetah. From here, Lord enlists the services of Wonder Woman against his new foe, using the artifacts to resurrect Steve in return.
Though filming for 1984 wrapped last month, we’ve still got well over a year to wait before we can see any of this story play out, though Pine has already teased a few details of his role in the upcoming film, comparing his character to “a deer in the headlights” in an interview with Variety a few days ago.
Incidentally, the actor has apparently been carrying the secret of Steve’s return around with him for a while now, recalling in an interview with BBC Radio 1 last year how director Patty Jenkins explained the idea to him while the two of them were halfway through filming the first movie. We’ll find out what other twists Jenkins has been hiding when Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters on June 5th, 2020.
