The film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s sci-fi novel The Host, with a script penned by Andrew Niccol, has attracted some big name talent. Oscar-winning actor William Hurt may be joining the growing list of actors attached to the project. Those already signed on include Red Riding Hood‘s Max Irons, I Am Number Four‘s Jake Abel, and Saoirse Ronan.
The story takes place in a utopia of sorts created by aliens that come to Earth, insert themselves in the brains of all humans, and end war and disease. The problem is, that the humans decide they don’t want that perfect existence – what they want is the inperfection they have always known.
Hurt is rumored to be in talks to play the role of Jeb, one of the leaders of the human survialists fighting against the takeover. His character is also the uncle of Melanie Stryder (Ronan). Stryder finds herself the object of desire in a very Twilight inspired love-triangle between the characters played by Irons and Abel.
While not confirmed, it’s more than likely that Hurt will join and I couldn’t be happier. Although he usually only appears in supporting roles these days, he’s an excellent actor who always brings something exciting to the table.
The Host will hit theaters on March 29, 2013.
