When your back catalogue gets adapted as heavily as that of Stephen King, carving time out of an already-busy schedule to promote every single one of them isn’t really a viable option, but the author has at least been making a point of drumming up hype for Rob Savage’s The Boogeyman.
The director behind pandemic-era viral sensation Host – dubbed by science as the scariest movie ever made – and the polarizing DASHCAM has made the leap to studio-backed fare in typically unexpected fashion by helming a PG-13 tale of terror bearing the branding of Disney subsidiary 20th Century Studios, one that was also pulled from Hulu and upgraded to a theatrical release.
While the early reviews have been more stellar as opposed to spectacular, King has clearly thrown his weight behind The Boogeyman, albeit in hilariously half-hearted fashion. Having previously stated nothing but the facts when the trailer dropped, he’s now relayed yet another on-the-nose message ahead of the film’s big screen release this coming Friday.
It’s always worth making a point of noting the live-action makeovers of his bibliography that King actually supports, because they tend to be the ones worth checking out. After all, did you see or hear him say or do anything about the recent Children of the Corn remake that sat on the shelf for years and then found itself torn apart by critics to rank as one of the worst-reviewed titles ever based on his work?
Exactly, which does at the very least ensure The Boogeyman will be one worth checking out for King aficionados, if nothing else.
