Come December, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is expected to peel back the curtain on Supreme Leader Snoke – no longer will you have to squint at a floor-to-ceiling hologram – and it seems Making Star Wars (via Screen Rant) has our first true look at Andy Serkis’ strangely humanoid alien.
Said to be around seven foot tall, Snoke is a power-mongering being that pulled the strings behind Ben Solo’s journey over to the dark side of the Force, where he was anointed Kylo Ren and placed in charge of the Knights of Ren. Adam Driver brought that character to life with a real sense of menace two years ago, and since The Force Awakens and his defeat at the hands of Daisy Ridley’s Rey aboard Starkiller Base, The Last Jedi will see Kylo Ren hunt down the remnants of the Resistance (and the Jedi!) with all guns blazing.
For Snoke, we fully expect Andy Serkis’ big bad to enjoy a meatier role when the lights go down on December 15th. Chances are his presence is enough to spur Luke Skywalker into action, potentially setting up an almighty clash between the two titans – between the dark side and the light – ahead of the release of Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019.
But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, here’s that purportedly “accurate” depiction of the scrawny Supreme Leader as he’ll appear in The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been penciled in for theatrical release on December 15th. Beyond that, Disney and Lucasfilm’s rebooted juggernaut will cordially invite viewers off the beaten track (read: the Skywalker saga) to explore the origin story of one Han Solo. It’ll deploy on May 25th, 2018, before Colin Trevorrow delivers the as-yet-untitled Episode IX the following year.
