Porgs are friends, not food.
That’s the resounding message from Mark Hamill, after the Luke Skywalker actor took to Twitter to clarify some potentially grisly details about the porgs ahead of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Described as a mix between a puffin and an adorable penguin, those pint-sized creatures will soon challenge the Ewoks as the cutest addition to Lucasfilm’s Star Wars universe, but the recently-released tie-in book, Star Wars Made Easy, claimed that Rian Johnson’s creations belong at the bottom of Ahch-To’s food chain.
Aghast, the Star Wars community began to string together multiple fans theories asserting that Luke Skywalker has actually spent years feasting on the porgs of Ahch-To as his search for the last Jedi Temple intensified. Turns out that’s not the case (phew!), as Hamill’s latest Tweet essentially reaffirms that Luke is a vegetarian, and has been for quite some time.
That’s not to say that those bug-eyed porgs are in the clear; promo art for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has painted Chewbacca with some feathers scattered across his face, which certainly lends credence to those earlier reports of the porgs being positioned as edible snacks. Take that alleged report with a grain of salt, though, as we’ve already caught a glimpse of one lucky porg riding alongside Chewy in the Millennium Falcon.

Pitched as a different and “unexpected” entry into this rebooted Star Wars franchise, The Last Jedi will be with us on December 15th, and all signs currently point to Disney and Lucasfilm launching a new trailer on October 9th, when most of America will be tuning into Monday Night Football.
