This Star Wars Day, the franchise’s official website unveiled the complete “Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” publishing program, which will bring us a series of books and comics connected to J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer.
Among the vast array of releases planned is Resistance Reborn, a novel by Rebecca Roanhorse, which is set to offer some insight on just what our heroes got up to after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The book is scheduled for release on November 12th, but in the meantime, we have the following description:
“In this Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker novel, Poe Dameron, General Leia Organa, Rey, and Finn must struggle to rebuild the Resistance after their defeat at the hands of the First Order in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
From the sound of things, the story of Resistance Reborn takes place between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Indeed, it’s long been rumored that the latter film will feature a significant time jump. If so, then we may find that the Resistance has already made some progress in the rebuilding its forces by the time The Rise of Skywalker begins its story.
You can also expect the novel to offer further insights on the relationship between Finn and Rey. Though The Force Awakens showed John Boyega’s character pining for the young heroine, The Last Jedi saw Finn’s attention turn to series newcomer Rose Tico.
Last month, the generally reliable Making Star Wars relayed intel that Kelly Marie Tran’s character will indeed be Finn’s love interest in their next movie. If the report has it right, then it’s likely that both Resistance Reborn and the subsequent film will depict Finn and Rey as strictly friends. Either way, we’ll find out the fate of Rey, Rose, Finn and the rest of the rebels when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th.
