Last Friday, a new teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was finally released, giving fans their first taste of the upcoming trilogy-closer. But if you happened to be present at the film’s Star Wars Celebration panel, then you may have also caught the short behind-the-scenes sizzle reel that reflected on the entirety of the Skywalker Saga.
So far, the video has yet to be officially shared online, but it seems that one audience member managed to record the whole thing, which can now be watched on the Star Wars Scenes YouTube channel. Though the promo doesn’t have much to tell us about this year’s release, it may still tug at the heartstrings of plenty of fans as it delves into the history of the franchise. The video starts off with some bloopers from A New Hope, before offering some behind-the-scenes footage from then and now.
The reel also includes clips from various interviews, featuring Original Trilogy stars like Alec Guinness and relative newcomers like Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Even George Lucas makes multiple appearances, though one of the biggest cheers from the audience was saved for the late Carrie Fisher.
One of the main messages pushed by the promo is that the nine-film Skywalker Saga will soon be coming to a close. Indeed, it’s expected that The Rise of Skywalker will be the final outing for several series regulars, including Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian. And going by the recent teaser, even Emperor Palpatine is somehow returning to the fray.
At the same time, the Sequel Trilogy has served as an extended passing of the torch to a new generation of stars. With that in mind, you can expect Rey, Kylo Ren and the rest of the young line-up to put all they’ve learned to use when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
