The fans are still buzzing from all the recent revelations at this month’s Star Wars Celebration, but if you’ve already started wondering when the next big event for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might be, Making Stars Wars has relayed some news from a “well respected source” with “an excellent track record for accuracy.”
According to the site’s source, J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer is expected to have a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which opens on July 18th. While MSW stresses that arrangements can always change in the coming months, the outlet adds that the claim had been backed up by another respected source, suggesting that this is indeed Disney’s plan, at least for the time being.
In any case, this isn’t an especially surprising revelation, seeing how Abrams previously did SDCC for The Force Awakens, though granted, every Star Wars film released since then has skipped the convention. Of course, what exactly Lucasfilm might reveal at this year’s panel remains unclear, be it a trailer, a behind-the-scenes reel or something else entirely. If the marketing for the last two episodes is anything to go by, then the film’s full trailer may not be released until October, but feel free to hold out hope for a July reveal.
Incidentally, MSW’s source also mentioned that The Mandalorian is thought to have the spotlight at the D23 Expo in August. If so, then with any luck, we’ll get some new material out of the event, rather than a rehash of the Celebration footage, which was never officially released online. Either way, we’ll find out what Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars show has to offer when its first season premieres on Disney Plus on November 12th, before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th.
