Kenobi: A Star Wars Story kinda’ rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?
It’s by no means the official title of Lucasfilm’s planned Obi-Wan movie, but one talented Reddit user has taken it upon himself (or herself!) to design a mock poster for the upcoming spinoff. Besides, after Rogue One and Solo, we imagine the Powers That Be will be adhering to a pretty strict title format when it comes to their anthologies.
Steeped in the rich history of Star Wars, this inspired piece clearly takes visual cues from Sideshow Collectibles’ famous statue, which imagined the great Obi-Wan Kenobi between trilogies (read: between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope) on Tatooine. Toss in the famous twin sunset and Redditor ‘Rikard_’ may well have delivered your new phone wallpaper. ‘Tis the season for Star Wars mania, after all.
Despite much speculation, it turns out the beloved Jedi Knight had no role to play in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is a little disappointing when you consider that Ewan McGregor’s voice was heard briefly during The Force Awakens. However, you can’t fault Rian Johnson’s reasoning (spoilers: it involved potential continuity issues), and fans will now be holding out hope for some tangible intel on Obi-Wan’s very own spinoff.
Last we reported, Lucasfilm had seemingly selected ‘Joshua Tree’ to be the film’s placeholder, whereas previous working titles within the Star Wars franchise have included the likes of Red Cup (Solo), Blue Harvest (Return of the Jedi) and Space Bears (The Last Jedi).
Alas, the studio is yet to announce any form of timeline for its nascent Obi-Wan spinoff, but we’re inclined to believe the Stephen Daldry-directed origin story will be slotted between Episode IX and Rian Johnson’s forthcoming Star Wars trilogy, which will, through time, future-proof Disney’s crown jewel long into the 2020s.
