Even before Disney shelled out a whopping $4.05 billion to acquire Lucasfilm and all of its precious assets in 2012, Star Wars was widely considered to be one of, if not the biggest brands in entertainment. And one need only look to the ongoing marketing blitz for Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi for evidence of the franchise’s enduring popularity.
Pegged for a theatrical release on December 15th, and following the blistering success of Rogue One, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will beckon moviegoers back to the core Skywalker franchise and, by effect, pick up where The Force Awakens left off in 2015. That signals the return of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and, perhaps most exciting of all, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who slipped off the radar soon after the events of Return of the Jedi only to be found aboard the rocky outcrop known as Ahch-To.
To date, we’ve only seen one tantalizing teaser for the film and truthfully, it didn’t show us very much. Disney’s clearly keeping a tight lid on this one and while we’ll likely get a full trailer in the next month or so, the wait to see some more footage hasn’t been an easy one. Thankfully, then, we’ve been getting a steady stream of LEGO set leaks, the latest of which has arrived this weekend and sheds some light on a few of the vehicles we’ll see in the sequel.
In the gallery above you’ll find pics of Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter, a Resistance Transport Pod and the Heavy Scout Walker (along with a few other previously released LEGO leaks). Unfortunately, none of the new photos reveal too much, but it’s nice to have a closer look at some of the vehicles we’ll be getting in The Last Jedi regardless – especially the TIE Fighter. It’s also interesting to note that the new Walker looks like a significant improvement on the AT-ST, with what seems to be increased agility to allow for more mobility.
On December 15th, Rian Johnson will lift the lid on Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It’s the third marquee blockbuster to come out of Disney and Lucasfilm since that aforementioned acquisition, though it seems the fourth (read: Han Solo) isn’t having much luck by comparison, given that the Mouse House has parted ways with Phil Lord and Chris Miller over creative differences. Ron Howard has since stepped in though and seems to have things under control, so we’re hopeful that all will turn out ok in the end.
