Today marks two years since the passing of Carrie Fisher, and it’s clear that the actress still holds a presence in the heart of many a filmgoer, with countless Star Wars fans taking to Twitter to remember the star who brought Leia Organa to life.
Fisher was last seen on the big screen in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which ended with a dedication to the star’s memory. Now, slightly over one year later, fans are marking the solemn anniversary of Fisher’s passing with some personal tributes of their own:

She was my idol and an inspiration, she’s a woman who gave me hope so many times just by being who she was & never shying away from it or feeling the need to say sorry. Carrie Fisher was so much more & I miss her so very much. I can’t believe it’s been 2 years. ❤️ you Space Mom. pic.twitter.com/Xh7waOUCaG

If that last tweet has left you a little perplexed, Fisher once joked that she’d like her obituary to read that she was drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra, in reference to the claims that your body expands in space but not your clothing.
In any case, Lucasfilm is set to release at least one more tribute to the late actress in the form of next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX. Earlier this year, the studio confirmed that Leia will feature in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer by way of unused footage from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and while we shouldn’t expect too much screen time for the character, Oscar Isaac has offered his assurance that the movie deals with Fisher’s absence “in a really beautiful way.”
In the same interview, the actor also mentioned that there’s “definitely some pain” in returning to the set for the next Star Wars without Fisher around. In a similar way, the upcoming film will likely prove a bittersweet watch for Leia’s biggest fans, but here’s hoping that Episode IX can give the character a fitting and respectful finale when it comes out in theaters on December 20th, 2019.
