Snoke’s obsidian ring has been the subject of a fair amount of speculation ever since it was first revealed that the mineral on this jewelry was taken from the site of Darth Vader’s Mustafar castle. Such is the case with this recent theory making the rounds that the upcoming Age of Resistance comic book series could be laying the groundwork for the character’s return in Star Wars: Episode IX.

This piece of speculation is based on the unverified report that not only will these comics be exploring the Supreme Leader’s backstory in the later months of 2019, but that they’ll be packing a huge revelation to do with Snoke’s mysterious ring. From here, the theory follows that whatever we learn about Snoke could lay the foundations for his return in next year’s trilogy-closer.

As a theory based on a rumor, the foundations for this idea seem far too dubious to take it all that seriously, but there’s no denying that there’s a large part of the Star Wars fanbase that’s keen to learn more about the late villain. After The Force Awakens set up Snoke to be the Emperor to Kylo Ren’s Vader, Rian Johnson really pulled the carpet from under viewers when he killed off the character in The Last Jedi before we’d even had a chance to get to know the guy.

Since then, the villain has been the subject of all sorts of speculation and hearsay, alleging everything from Ed Harris playing a younger version of the character in the next movie, to Snoke being little more than a force projection from Kylo’s psyche. Needless to say, J.J. Abrams will be proving a lot of theories wrong when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019, but as doubtful as most of these ideas are, there’s always a chance that the film will find some way of keeping this former big bad relevant to the saga.
