As a character, Poe Dameron is arguably more popular than ever before, what with the ongoing animated series (read: Resistance) and a full-blown movie sequel in Star Wars: Episode IX.
The latter is pegged for a release next Christmas, and will signal the moment when J.J. Abrams and Co. bid farewell to Luke Skywalker et. al for the final time. It’s shaping up to be an emotional finale, too, given the questions currently lingering over Carrie Fisher and, more specifically, the fate of General Leia Organa.
But what about her worthy successor? Turns out that regardless of what’s in store for Poe Dameron, Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac plans to take a well-deserved hiatus from the industry beyond 2019. Via IndieWire, Isaac admitted that he’s been burning the candle at both ends for nigh on 10 years:
I haven’t really stopped for 10 years. I’m just going to be with family and taking a bit of a rest.
That’s not to say he’s worn out from the filming of Star Wars: Episode IX – far from it, in fact, as Oscar Isaac was enthusiastic when speaking about the ways in which J.J. Abrams’ threequel was much more experimental than he initially expected.
The way they’ve been shooting it right now is looser than it’s been for the last two times. It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, ‘Oh, we can try things.’ It’s a testament to J.J. coming back and feeling confident. There’s less pressure for it to be right. We just want to make a good movie and have a really good time while doing it.
Angled as the ninth and final installment in Lucasfilm’s storied Skywalker Saga, look for Star Wars: Episode IX to light up theaters on December 20th, 2019 with Isaac’s Poe Dameron in tow.
