Boba Fett Movie Said To Start Shooting In 2020

According to Omega Underground, Mangold’s current project, Ford vs. Ferrari, begins shooting this summer and is scheduled for a Fall 2019 release. This suggests that the director will likely be wrapped up with promotional duties for the racing movie from there on out, which takes us right up to 2020.

Of course, this all depends on Lucasfilm’s scheduling after having confirmed several other Star Wars projects already. Following Episode IX, there’s Rian Johnson’s new trilogy to look forward to (with trepidation), a series of films from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, of which very little is known, and also Jon Favreau’s live action TV series, which again, is slim on details.

After all that, perhaps the most pertinent question is, does anyone actually want a Boba Fett movie? Surely after Solo: A Star Wars Story there must be some doubt cast on how warranted a film based on a near-mute Mandalorian is. Having said that, hardcore fans have always been obsessed with Boba since he was the only good thing to come out of the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.

For my money, there’s some serious mileage in the spinoff taking place in between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Specifically, let’s see the story of how Boba Fett got the freshly carbonited (carbonized?) Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt, fending off other bounty hunters such as Bossk and Dengar in the process. That would be worth a lot to me.
