Though Marvel’s films take place in the same universe as their television shows, any form of crossover happening between the two is highly unlikely. True, we’ve seen a bit of it on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, but for the most part, the big and small screen don’t cross paths or have much to do with one another – aside from the odd reference or nod here and there. That being said, it’s not as if fans aren’t eager to have such a thing happen more often.
While it would no doubt be incredible to see heroes like Jessica Jones and Daredevil teaming up with the Avengers to take on Thanos in Infinity War, we wouldn’t hold our breath. Instead, there’s a better possibility of seeing some of the supporting characters make the transition, and one fan-favorite pick is Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, who’s had a big impact so far thanks to his role on Daredevil.
Aside from being one of the very best villains Marvel has to offer – in film and television – it’d make sense for Kingpin to eventually show up in the movies as he’s been a longtime antagonist for Spider-Man in the comics. It’s not only the web-head though who could potentially go up against D’Onofrio’s towering villain, as Chris Pratt says that he’d love for Star-Lord to get a shot at him, too.
Speaking to Screen Rant during a set visit for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the actor noted that he’d be excited to cross paths with several other Marvel characters, one of which is Kingpin.
“Yes! There’s so many! I don’t know what’s possible now that Marvel is under Disney and some Marvel characters are under different studios, some are in TV, and some are – I don’t know how it works – I think it would be awesome for Star-Lord to meet Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin somehow. [Laughs] That would be awesome. I was always a fan of The Punisher. That was my dude who I loved growing up. I had the murals of him on my wall and stuff, so that would be pretty awesome. Maybe a little more moody than Quill. I don’t know exactly how they would work together.”
Unfortunately, D’Onofrio appearing in a Marvel movie has already been ruled out on several occasions, which means this probably won’t happen. Then again, Pratt has worked with the actor several times already – Jurassic World, The Magnificent Seven – and the two are friends in real life, so who knows? Never say never.
Chris obviously has a lot of pull over at the studio, given how important he is to them and his immense popularity with fans, and if he wants Star-Lord to meet the Kingpin, he might just get his wish one day. After all, we already know that D’Onofrio is interested in appearing in the films, so there’s no reason that this shouldn’t happen eventually. Whether it will or not remains to be seen, but it really does seem like a win-win for all parties.
What do you think, though? Would Star-Lord going up against the Kingpin be something that you’d be into? Or should the terrifying villain stay on the small screen? Sound off with your comments in the usual place!
