Usually in Marvel movies, we’re left to wonder where the rest of the Avengers are during the events of the film and why they can’t drop by to lend a hand. Spider-Man: Far From Home actually addresses this issue, though, in a fun sequence that references a bunch of heroes who could’ve helped out the webhead but are otherwise engaged. And in doing so it might tease something about Doctor Strange 2.
When Nick Fury hijacks Peter Parker’s summer vacation and orders him to help Mysterio defeat the Elementals attacking Europe, Peter asks why the other heroes can’t do it. Thor? He’s off-world. Captain Marvel? Peter’s told not to even invoke her name by Fury. But what about Stephen Strange? Well, Maria Hill comments that he’s “unavailable” and leaves it at that.
Thor and Carol Danvers not being around makes sense as they have their own cosmic problems to deal with. However, it’s curious that something’s stopping the Master of the Mystic Arts from dropping by as he’s situated in New York. What if the good doctor is actually busy with his own attempt to save the world at the same time, then? Furthermore, what if Doctor Strange 2 will be set concurrently with Far From Home?
The sequel to the 2016 solo movie probably won’t be with us until 2022 at the earliest, but there won’t need to be a major time jump for Doctor Strange 2 to be happening in tandem with Far From Home. Given the five year Blip, FFH is set in 2023. By the time DS2 rolls around, the MCU timeline and the real-world should have basically synced up again.
Spider-Man: Far From Home doesn’t give us any clues as to what Strange might be doing at this time, but it’s a good bet that Mordo will be causing trouble in Doctor Strange 2. Plus, our sources have told us to expect Nightmare as the main villain. Once we learn more, though, we’ll be sure to let you know.
