The call for a crossover between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom has got so loud now that it’s become more of a question of when it’ll happen rather than if. Both Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Sony producer Amy Pascal have said that it’s likely to be on the cards at some point and it sounds like something Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Far From Home, would like to see, too.
While speaking with ComicBookMovie.com, Watts revealed that he’s a fan of last October’s Venom movie and he thinks the more comedic tone of that film would actually mean the symbiotic superhero could gel well with the MCU’s Spidey. In fact, the director believes bringing the two stars together would produce “special” results.
“I found Venom to be so funny and I thought Tom Hardy was so great, I don’t know that they are so different. I think you put those two Toms together and you’re going to see something pretty special.”
There’ve been rumors that Sony wants Venom to show up in Spider-Man 3, something that would probably please Watts as he would get to be the one to helm this team-up between the pair. However, most evidence points to the crossover having nothing to do with Marvel, with the studio allegedly not interested in using the character. In fact, Feige himself said as much recently.
So, should we be gearing ourselves up for a Peter Parker cameo in Venom 2? Quite possibly, as Venom director Ruben Fleischer has teased the notion in the past, with Hardy also voicing his interest in battling Spidey in a sequel. Apparently, Sony can request the use of Holland’s Spider-Man at any time and Marvel have to let them, too. Again, the only question now seems to be when the time is right for the team-up.
