Forget Armani or Hugo Boss, the best suit maker in the MCU is obviously Tony Stark. Not content with forever refining his own Iron Man technology, he’s also provided gear to War Machine, Falcon and now his young protégée, Spider-Man. What’s more, he’s taken some tips from Apple and knows about the dirty consumerist fetish of quality unboxing, as we can see in this new TV spot for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
How else to explain style with which this Stark designed Spider-suit unfolds out of a briefcase surrounded by all manner of awesome-looking Spider-themed gadgets. Judging from what we see here, Spider-Man will be discovering new functions in the suit throughout the film – just within the trailers alone, we’ve seen tiny Spidey drones emerge from it, an emergency parachute and all manner of web-based chicanery. Even better, there’s a load of locked functions hidden by Stark within the suit and you just know they’re going to be absolutely amazing.
This new suit is so cool, in fact, that there’s a danger that Peter Parker is coming to rely on it a little too much, which might be why some scenes in the trailer show him reverting to a homemade sweat pants and ski mask ensemble. I’d bet that Stark confiscates the suit after he perceives Parker to have overstepped the mark, only for Parker to prove that he doesn’t need a fancy suit stuffed full of gizmos to save the day.
Giving the character a load of gadgets and high-tech outfit is an interesting twist. After all, Peter Parker is notoriously unlucky with money and his suit (while stylish) is generally there simply to allow him to use his powers rather than augment them. Either way, I can’t wait to see what else Tony Stark has stuffed up Peter Parker’s tight sleeve when Spider-Man: Homecoming opens on July 7th.
