Though Peter Parker might currently be dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is another Spider-Man out there who’s ready to take over from him. Fan favorite Miles Morales will soon make his big screen debut in Sony’s upcoming animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
To date, our only look at the film came last December when the first teaser trailer dropped online. It’s been pretty quiet on the Spider-Verse front since then, but co-director Peter Ramsey has now teased that a second preview is on its way. The filmmaker, who helmed the movie alongside Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman, responded to an excited fan on Twitter and promised that the new promo will arrive in June.
Hopefully, this next look at Spider-Verse will continue to tease its ties to the wider Spider-Man mythology. At first, we were told this was a standalone adventure for Miles, as voiced by Dope‘s Shameik Moore, but the first teaser revealed that Peter Parker (portrayed by New Girl‘s Jake Johnson) would also appear, with the title suggesting that it might feature other alternative versions of the wall-crawler, too – maybe even Spider-Gwen.
Plot details have been kept under wraps, but it’s been reported that three classic Spidey villains will appear in the animated effort. First, Miles’ uncle on the wrong side of the law, the Prowler, will be voiced by Mahershala Ali (Moonliight). Norman Osborn/Green Goblin is also expected to turn up, likely played by Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), and last but not least, the Kingpin looks to be showing his bald head as well.
Despite being a Peter Parker-less spinoff from Sony, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be introducing the idea of a shared Spider-multiverse, so who knows what could happen if it gets a sequel. Things certainly look promising as of now though and we’ll find out what the pic’s got in store for us when it swings into theaters on December 14th.
