One of these days, we’re finally going to get that trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which we’ve been hearing is imminent for months now. Recently, though, it’s status has been updated to ‘ready to go’, but there’s still no guarantees the first footage will even confirm the involvement of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
At this stage, fans are going to be pissed off if the two former live-action Spideys don’t appear, even though we’ve never been promised anything by either Marvel Studios or Sony, while Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield both went out of their way to distance themselves from any and all speculation, but it isn’t like the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t above a little bit of misdirection and disinformation every now and again.
Luckily, we can always rely on tie-in merchandise potentially giving some major plot points away, with the latest No Way Home merch revealing the most detailed look yet and Holland’s new black and gold suit, and some background connections that may or may not reference Spider-Man movies directed by both Sam Raimi and Marc Webb, which you can see below.
Times Square is where Garfield faced off against Jamie Foxx’s Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, while the cityscape backdrop is hugely reminiscent of the scenes from Raimi’s trilogy where Maguire went swinging around New York on his next adventure. Maybe we’re reading too much into it, or just maybe we’re edging closer and closer to Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s worst-kept secret being made public at long last, unless of course we’ve all been building things up in our heads and it all comes crashing down in a tsunami of disappointment. Let’s hope not.
