Tom Holland Confirms Plans For Spider-Man: Homecoming Trilogy

The idea that Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the start of a trilogy of movies starring Marvel's teen take on the wall-crawler has been spoken about for a while now, but it hasn't been officially announced. Until now, that is, as Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland has 100% confirmed that Marvel Studios plans to do at least two more solo outings with the character.

The idea that Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the start of a trilogy of movies starring Marvel’s teen take on the wall-crawler has been spoken about for a while now, but it hasn’t been officially announced. Until now, that is, as Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland has 100% confirmed that Marvel Studios plans to do at least two more solo outings with the character.

Speaking to French site Allocine, Holland talked about his interest in seeing Peter Parker grow across “the next two movies.”

“There is still plenty of room to see Peter grow up Parker and especially Spider-Man in the next two movies, and at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, the story is definitely not complete, I’m really looking forward to exploring how it will grow, [and to] see what will happen after puberty. Yes, [they’re] going to be exciting movies.”

Just to make it totally clear, Holland then said:

“Yes, there will be Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming 3.

This is great news for fans of Holland’s Spidey – and Holland himself, actually. The 21-year-old actor has previously spoken about his wish to play the webslinger for as long as possible and apparently, he’s even pitched the idea to Marvel that he could play the part until he’s 35.

Not to dampen the mood, but fans might remember the last time that a Spider-Man trilogy was planned, things didn’t go so well. The Amazing Spider-Man series was once intended to last at least three movies, with a bunch of spinoffs to boot. Unfortunately for Sony, those plans were scrapped after only two outings when TASM 2 took a critical beating and proved to be the lowest-grossing Spider-Man film to date. Now, Spidey is happily rubbing shoulders with Iron Man in the MCU and Sony are moving forward with their own Spider-Man-less cinematic universe.

Whether this new trilogy turns out better than the last attempt remains to be seen, but we should find out soon enough, as Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres on July 7th.
