After 21 films, we imagine that most Marvel fans know to stay in their seats in theaters to catch not only the usual mid-credits sequence but also the additional scene that plays right at the end. Sure, Avengers: Endgame might’ve bucked the trend, but when you head out to catch Spider-Man: Far From Home this week, be sure to hang around once the film finishes up, as there’ll be two surprises for you.
Thankfully, what Marvel’s included is well worth waiting for and is a lot more than just that clanking sound which we got at the end of Endgame. In fact, the two scenes that play during and after the credits have been sending fans into a frenzy over on Twitter and below, we dive into what they might mean for the future of the MCU.
As you’ll know if you’ve seen the film, the first scene sees Mysterio framing Spider-Man for crimes he didn’t commit while also revealing his true identity to the world. It’s at this point that we see J.K. Simmons reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson as well, with the fan favorite character once again showing his hatred for the web-slinger.
Following that, the scene after the credits is equally as enticing, as it reveals that Nick Fury and Maria Hill have actually been Skrulls this whole time. Not for their entire existence in the MCU, but they weren’t really there during the events of Far From Home. Rather, the Skrulls were covering for them and impersonating the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents while Fury and Hill were off in outer space attending to what we presume is some sort of secret mission.
So, what does this all mean? Well, there are a few things to note here. For starters, Spider-Man 3 will no doubt find Peter in a world of trouble now that the general public sees him as a bad guy and also knows his true identity. What we can also presume is that Jameson will appear in the threequel as well as an adversary to Parker. But he won’t be the only one, as we’ve been told by our source that this may even lead to Norman Osborn’s introduction into the MCU, with the villain building a team (the Sinister Six) to hunt down Spider-Man.
Exciting stuff, indeed, but what about the second scene? Well, this looks like some kind of tease for Captain Marvel 2, with some even speculating that Fury might be beginning to form S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department), “an organization, operating in space, meant to deal with alien threats to Earth.” It also, indicates, though, that other characters could be Skrulls as well and we might not know it yet – which opens the door for a ton of exciting possibilities.
All things considered, these two scenes are both hugely important to the future of the MCU and after Spider-Man: Far From Home closed out Phase 3 so perfectly, we can’t wait to see where things go next.
