Amid reports of ridiculous contract negotiations – contract negotiations that seemingly resulted in Daniel Craig being offered an eye-watering $150 million to reprise the role of 007 for a further two movies – and talk of Sam Mendes vacating the director’s chair, Bond 25 is, at least for the time being, very much up in the air.

Sony and MGM are clearly keen to set the wheels in motion, but there are still some creative hurdles to overcome, meaning that James Bond isn’t likely to strut onto your local cinema screen – be that Craig’s Bond or some new actor entirely – for some time yet.

That’s something that Spectre star Christoph Waltz touched upon while chatting with German magazine Zeit-Magazin Mann (via CommanderBond), stating, “right now, nobody even knows which studio will produce the next and if Daniel will return. All of that is filed under ‘carry on’.” As we mentioned before, hurdles to overcome.

Stepping into the shoes of the infamous Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Waltz then went on to discuss his villainous turn in Spectre, which left him somewhat frustrated: “I cannot claim that I’ve really nailed Blofeld. Overall, it held water and was okay. But it wasn’t what I’ve been looking for. I was searching for more inspiration.” Do we detect some resentment toward director Sam Mendes? Don’t read into that one too much, as this is pulled from a translated interview.

Though it failed to live up to its predecessor Skyfall, Spectre still brought in close to $850 million at the international box office, ensuring that, for all intents and purposes, Bond 25 is inevitable. But do you hope Christoph Waltz gets another crack at the role of Blofeld? Let us know by commenting below!
