Deadline is reporting that Sony has set a release date for Hotel Transylvania 2. The news comes as no surprise given Hotel Transylvania‘s success. It may not have done much for critics but it is on the animated feature Oscar shortlist and has already brought in $137.5 million domestically. So, with that in mind, Sony Animation is ordering up a sequel for September 25, 2015.
Genndy Tartakovsky, who directed the first film, is now attached to Sony’s Popeye flick so it’s unlikely he’ll be able to return to the director’s seat. On that note, none of the cast members have been confirmed to be returning either, though I think it’s safe to say that at the very least, Adam Sandler will be back in the lead role.
Having not seen Hotel Transylvania, I can’t really comment on the prospect of a sequel. That being said, most of the efforts from Sony/Sandler have failed to impress me in recent years and I can’t see this one being any different. It looks like some decent fun for the young ones but judging by the trailers and what I’ve read in various reviews, there’s nothing here that gets me too excited.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Hotel Transylvania 2?
