New Solo Superman And Batman Films To Arrive Before 2020

In the wake of the big news concerning Warner Brothers' massive slate of upcoming DC Comics films, two important properties almost slipped under the radar. Warner Bros. is also planning new solo films for both Superman and Batman, to arrive somewhere between 2016 and 2020.

In the wake of the big news concerning Warner Brothers’ official (and massive) slate of DC Comics films, it appears that two major projects slipped under the radar. We may have received confirmation about solo films featuring The Flash, The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and even a Green Lantern reboot, but DC’s two biggest names were noticeably absent.

Fret not, Batman and Superman fans, because there are new solo films for the beloved characters on the horizon. According to Warner Bros.’ official press release, the new movies don’t have release dates, but are expected to fit within the already-crowded slate and should hit theaters before 2020:

“Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema will release a slate of at least 10 movies – as well as stand-alone Batman and Superman films – from 2016 to 2020 that expands this prized universe of characters.”

That means we’ll be getting twelve DC films from 2016 to 2020, which is an ambitious plan, to say the least. As a hardcore DC fan, it’s great to see the studio finally put confidence in these properties. However, after their rocky track record, I can’t help but to wonder if things will actually proceed as planned.

With Batman and Superman starring in their big team-up brawl, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and likely appearing in each of the Justice League movies, it’s no surprise that both characters took a bit of a backseat in order to leave room for solo films involving characters like The Flash and Wonder Woman, who are long overdue for the big screen spotlight.

Now the big question is, where can Warner Bros. fit two new Batman and Superman films in their current slate? My guess is that they’ll be given new release dates separate from the ones announced earlier this year that will house the newly-announced projects.

Tell us, what do you think of this news? Are you happy to hear that Superman and Batman will be given solo films in addition to the other DC characters? Or is Warner Brothers biting off more than they can chew? Sound off in the comments below!
