What is likely to be the final trailer for Robert Schwentke’s Insurgent has stormed online today, teasing the explosive, post-apocalyptic action that is by now right around the corner.
Due to hit theaters next month, this new clip essentially acts as a bridge between the sequel and last year’s Divergent, picking up the story of Tris and Four — Shailene Woodley and Theo James, respectively — as they band together in order to take the fight to the power-mongering Erudite elite.
Showcasing some of the film’s unique visuals countered by the familiar, Hunger Games-esque post-apocalyptic wasteland that we’ve come accustomed to in YA adaptations of late, it’ll be interesting to see how Insurgent performs at the box office and whether it can properly set up the two-part finale, Allegiant, in the way that fans hope.
Alongside Woodley and James for the second installment is Whiplash‘s Miles Teller, Kate Winslet as the overruling big bad, and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer.
Insurgent will continue to bring down the system piece by piece when Robert Schwentke’s hotly-anticipated sequel makes its bow on March 20th.
THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
