Oh, yeah! After The Smurfs surprisingly made a ton of money at the box office back in the summer of 2011, it was announced that a sequel would be rolling out.
In fact, shortly after the film was released, the sequel’s release date was revealed to be in August. Now, it looks like the date’s been pushed up just a bit as The Smurfs 2 will be released on July 31st, 2013.
So, while the kids are out of school, we’ll all be invaded by little blue smurfs as they enter our movie screens and quite possibly toy stores once more!
Previous cast members like Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara will return while Christina Ricci and Brendan Gleeson are amongst the new casting additions.
For those who don’t know, here’s the plot for The Smurfs 2.
The evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants — and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs — Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus – or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?
