When John Wick was first introduced to the moviegoing masses three years ago, co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch did a remarkable job of establishing the mythos of Keanu Reeves’ assassin. Often referred to as the Boogeyman and/or Baba Yaga, even when Reeves wasn’t on the screen characters spoke of his elusive hitman in hushed whispers, as though they were fearful of summoning the devil himself. The truth, however, was much worse.
Fast forward to 2017 and we’re on the verge of welcoming Keanu Reeves back to the action scene via John Wick: Chapter 2, and with a February 10th release date fast approaching, Coming Soon has premiered a series of new stills featuring old allies (Ian McShane’s Winston), new adversaries (Ruby Rose’s Ares) and a cute canine companion. Picking up immediately where the first film left off, chapter two of John Wick’s saga finds our ruthless hitman traveling to Rome for business. But business in the seedy underworld of assassins and hired guns isn’t as innocuous as it may seem, and early promos for Chad Stahelski’s sequel have teased the ways in which shit hits the fan – and fast.
Rounding out the cast list are Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick and John Leguizamo, and though Lionsgate is purportedly in the process of drafting up plans for a potential threequel, it seems the studio is also mulling over the possibility of a spinoff TV series.
Yeah, we’re thinking he’s back…John Wick: Chapter 2 pummels its way into theaters on February 10th, when Keanu Reeves’ ice-cool hitman will have both The LEGO Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker to contend with. Box office prognosticators claim the latter is tracking well behind its piping hot predecessor, Fifty Shades of Grey, which scored a remarkable $85 million on home turf during its opening weekend two years ago.
