Filming is already underway on the set of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s young Han Solo movie, but over the weekend Variety brought word of a last-minute recruit: Sing Street‘s Ian Kenny.
In a fashion that has become typical of Disney’s rejuvenated Star Wars universe, a thick veil of secrecy currently clouds Kenny’s mystery character, but TV viewers will no doubt recognize him from his time spent on Irish soap opera Fair City. Now, he’s trading the cobbled streets of Dublin for a galaxy far, far away. It’s a journey he’ll be making with Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newton, Michael Kenneth Williams and Joonas Suotamo – the latter of whom doubled as the lovable Wookiee in Star War: The Force Awakens. And though there are many questions currently lingering over the Han Solo anthology film, its ensemble cast is nothing short of exceptional.
One character that will surely enjoy a healthy amount of screen time is Woody Harrelson, after the former True Detective star climbed on board to play Beckett – not Garris Shrike – the mentor to Alden Ehrenreich’s swashbuckling nerf herder. What’s more, Lord and Miller’s standalone pic may well reveal Han Solo’s true identity, after comments made by Disney CEO Bob Iger indicated that Solo was merely the nickname adopted by Harrison Ford’s iconic anti-hero all those years ago. Stay tuned for more on that one.
Set to take place over the course of six years and unveil Han Solo‘s first encounter with both the Millennium Falcon and everyone’s favorite Wookiee, Chewbacca, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s as-yet-untitled anthology film has been slated for release on May 25th, 2018.
