Despite Warner Bros. having said they planned to develop a Shazam movie years ago, that didn’t make me any less surprised to hear that not only is it finally happening, but also that filming is expected to commence early next year. Sure, the studio has found another bankable hero aside from Batman in the form of Wonder Woman, but it never hurts to have a few more aces up your sleeve.
Expected to be one of the funnest movies based on a DC Comics property to date, one would fully anticipate a project such as this to be nothing less. After all, the reason this character has resonated with readers since the Golden Age is due to the simple, ingenious concept of a boy who attains superpowers via the use of a magic word. Really, doesn’t that sound like every kid’s fantasy?
But, as is the case with any movie of this sort, we’re all clamoring to know which characters from the comics director David F. Sandberg will surround the Big Red Cheese with. Obviously, Black Adam won’t be one of them – at least not in this particular film – but we’ve long suspected Doctor Sivana to be among that lot.
So, while we still await some kind of confirmation for that villain’s involvement, Sandberg continues to drop teasers on his Instagram page. In a genius ploy to guarantee himself more followers, he’s been uploading cryptic pictures since pre-production kicked off last week.
Now, it’s highly possible that he’s just posting photos of a Shazam toy collection he’s amassing, but it’s important to note that he’s slowly adding to it as those spent cans of Coca-Cola Zero rack up. In the latest offering, Mister Tawky Tawny, Mister Mind and Mister Atom are to be found, the latter two being villains. So, as it stands, we may already know who the big bad may be, or, at the very least, who’s making a cameo. As always, keep watching this space for more.
