The landmark success of Netflix’s Stranger Things coupled with Arrival, which bagged eight Oscar nominations ahead of Sunday’s main event, ensured Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps banner enjoyed a remarkable 2016. And things are only looking up.

Not only has Levy been tasked with dragging Sony’s long-gestating Uncharted movie out of development hell, but Variety brings word that the prolific writer-director-producer has signed on to develop an adaptation of Kendare Blake’s Three Dark Crowns. 20th Century Fox swooped in to acquire feature film rights for Blake’s fantasy saga – along with its three yet-to-be-published sequels – before 21 Laps also pledged their support.

Three Dark Crowns is the title of the first novel, which graced store shelves in September. The second entry, One Dark Throne, is set to be published in September of 2017, with Blake and HarperLee seemingly adhering to an annual release schedule. As for the planned adaptation, we understand Dan Levine has signed on to produce, with Natalie Lehmann and Daria Cercek overseeing for 21 Laps and Fox, respectively.

The official logline for Three Dark Crowns reads as so:

“Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.”

The saga of Kendare Blake’s warring triplets – namely Mirabella, Katharine and Arsinoe – is officially headed to the big screen. But what are your thoughts on Three Dark Crowns being engineered into a potential film franchise? Let us know below.
