With HBO’s Game of Thrones coming to a close very soon, its cast is starting to look ahead to the future and already we’ve seen many of them begin to make the transition over to other projects, as expected. Earlier today, we got word of Iwan Rheon, who plays Ramsay Bolton on the hit fantasy series, signing on for Marvel’s Inhumans and now, his co-star Alfie Allen (who plays Theon Greyjoy) has also found himself with a new role, as the actor’s been picked up by Shane Black’s The Predator.
Specifics on the part haven’t been revealed, but we’ve heard that Allen will play an ex-Marine, presumably one who helps take down the titular creatures. Joining a cast headlined by Logan‘s Boyd Holbrook, the Game of Thrones alum will also find himself in the company of Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane and more in what’s quickly shaping up to be one of the hottest projects in Hollywood at the moment.
With production having kicked off yesterday, it’s understandable that not too much is known about what 20th Century Fox have in store for us here. However, Black’s already made his intentions of going for an R-rating quite clear, while Holbrook also teased The Predator as “something totally new.” Given that we know the action will be moved to suburbia, which is a first for the series, we’re inclined to believe him.
Remakes, reboots, sequels and the like usually don’t go over so well when it comes to iconic 80s properties, but something tells us that Black might just buck the trend with his upcoming effort. He’s certainly got the talent to do so and the cast he’s assembled is quite impressive. Granted, none of that means that this film will be a guaranteed success, but for the time being, you can color us cautiously optimistic.
Pitched as a “horror, science-fiction and a western,” The Predator is booked in for release on February 9th, 2018 – just don’t hold your breath for a Schwarzenegger cameo.
