We’ve now got another beloved action franchise to add to our list of upcoming movie reboots, as THR is reporting that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black will remake Predator for 20th Century Fox.
Black, who wrote the films he’s directed as well as movies like Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout, will pen the treatment for the project (as well as direct it) before handing the script over to Monster Squad’s Fred Dekker. Producer John Davis, who produced the original 1987 film, is on board as well.
Interestingly enough, Black was actually in the original Predator, playing the role of Hawkins. At the time, the studio wanted him to polish the script, but he turned down the offer several times before being given a minor part in the movie instead.
Now, after several failed attempts at reinvigorating the iconic franchise (the less that’s said about the Alien vs. Predator series, the better), Fox has finally managed to get Black on board. It just might be a while before he gets around to making the film though, as he has a few other projects in the works and is pretty in demand now that Iron Man 3 is the sixth highest-grossing film of all time. Currently, he’s developing the 1970s crime film The Nice Guys, as well as Sony’s adaptation of the 1930s pulp hero Doc Savage. There’s no word on when Fox hopes to get this reboot off the ground, but I imagine t hat it’s going to take a while.
