Shailene Woodley Officially Offered Lead In The Fault In Our Stars

A couple years ago, the only thing I knew about Woodley was that she was on the niche ABC Family teen drama, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Since then, her career has catapulted her into one of the most sought after young actresses in Hollywood and her name is on everyone's lips.

Shailene Woodley has officially been offered the lead role of Hazel Grace Lancaster in the cinematic adaptation of John Green’s best selling YA novel, The Fault in Our Stars.

A couple years ago, the only thing I knew about Woodley was that she was on the niche ABC Family teen drama, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Since then her career has catapulted her into one of the most sought after young actresses in Hollywood, and her name is on everyone’s lips.

After proving her acting chops in 2011’s Oscar nominated The Descendants alongside George Clooney, Woodley has landed some pretty incredible new roles. She’s currently filming the iconic role of Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and had a film at Sundance – The Spectacular Now – which received rave reviews. Next up, Woodley is slated to start filming her lead role in another adaption of a hit YA novel, Divergent by Veronica Roth, which is being shot in Chicago this April.

Although she hasn’t officially accepted the offer to play Hazel inThe Fault In Our stars, rumors that she was being considered have been swirling around for some time now. Personally, I think Woodley would make a pretty great Hazel and this part is definitely another huge get for the actress.

The Fault in Our Stars was adapted by screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (The Spectacular Now) and will be directed by Josh Boone. Boone recently commented on the casting choice, saying the following to EW:

During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today’s finest young actresses. Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time. It was like lightning striking. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have.

The film is in the spirit of Jonathan Levine’s 50/50 and is about a 16 year-old cancer patient that becomes smitten with a fellow teen who she meets at a cancer support meeting. Even though the two teenagers are facing their own grim circumstances, they manage to highlight the positive things about life and find love despite everything.

Shailene Woodley stole my heart with her teen angst rebellion in The Descendants and I’m looking forward to seeing what she has to offer in some of these upcoming roles.
