Though you’ll probably know it as “that old person movie with all those old people in it,” pensioners all over the world are calling The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel “the best excuse I’ve ever had to go outside.” The film, released in 2011, grossed a whopping $134 million on a $10 million budget, which means it’s absolutely time for a sequel.
Yes, it’s been reported that screenwriter Ol Parker is working on a treatment for a follow-up to the surprisingly successful drama/comedy right this very moment. The great news for fans of the movie is that the cast are apparently eager to return to their roles, many of which are just happy to potter around India and say things which are sometimes old-fashioned or racist, but always delightful.
The original flick starred Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy and Tom Wilkinson, for those who haven’t seen it.
The best thing about this, of course, is that grandchildren everywhere finally have something else to do when it’s a grandparent’s birthday or something, given that this movie is (for once) actually targeted at them.
We can’t remember the last time that happened. Oh, yeah: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
