It’s largely Marvel Studios’ own fault that next year’s Avengers 4 has some ridiculously high expectations to live up to, and actor Sebastian Stan certainly isn’t helping matters by implying once more that directors Anthony and Joe Russo will be raising the bar.
The comment came in an interview with Collider, in which the Bucky Barnes actor admitted that he didn’t really know what to expect from the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, but also seemed confident that fans won’t be disappointed:
“But you know it’s going to deliver on a level that we probably haven’t even digested yet. Because that’s what they do best.”
Due to Marvel Studios’ strict no-spoiler policy, many an MCU actor has been put in the position of trying to promote Avengers 4 without saying anything about its actual content. But while Stan surely knows more than he’s telling us, it also sounds like he too has been kept heavily in the dark about this upcoming release.
In the same interview, for example, Stan claimed that he doesn’t even know if Bucky will be featuring in the movie, explaining that no one ever told him whether his scenes were intended for Infinity War or the follow-up. Indeed, even the directors probably aren’t sure quite yet of the film’s eventual shape, with Joe Russo recently mentioning that the current runtime is a hefty three hours, but that the feature could be the subject of further trimming before the final cut’s ready.
With the first Avengers 4 trailer looking to be just around the corner, it seems that we’ll soon have a much better idea of what the Russos have lined up for us, but we won’t know for sure whether the movie can live up to the hype until it finally lands in theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
