For the second year on the trot, New Line is bringing its big guns to San Diego Comic-Con.
Per Deadline, on the studio’s slate for this year’s event is It: Chapter Two, Andy Muschietti’s starry sequel that’s poised to revisit the Losers’ Club a full 27 years after their first encounter with Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Filming has already commenced (see an early peek at James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and the rest of the ensemble cast), so chances are New Line plans to serve up some early details about Chapter Two and the horror that awaits.
It’s not the only gig from the studio set to feature at SDCC, either, as Deadline’s report also alludes to The Nun, Corin Hardy’s Conjuring spinoff set for release in September. Word is the Powers That Be will debut “extended scenes” from the spooky prequel, which journeys back in time to chronicle the history of Valak, the demonic spirit haunting the Cârța Monastery.
Perhaps most tantalizing of all though is the promise of “other surprise film announcements” from New Line. Is this a sure-fire sign that the studio is ready to summon forth details for The Conjuring 3?
Buoyed by the back-to-back success of The Enfield Poltergeist and last year’s Annabelle: Creation, the horror franchise is in remarkably good shape, so we imagine New Line will want to double down on its ghosts and ghouls before The Nun checks into theaters this September.
Meanwhile, San Diego Comic-Con officially kicks off on Thursday, July 19th and runs through the weekend. We’ll have all the latest coverage for you right here on We Got This Covered, including the 411 on both It: Chapter Two and The Nun, so keep your eyes peeled.
