Much like the fact that Summer just isn’t the same without an excellent subaquatic fright flick, Halloween doesn’t quite get your blood pumping unless you’re watching a horror classic, or two. The Michael Dougherty-directed Trick ‘r Treat is one such quintessential motion picture. And as luck would have it, Scream Factory has just announced that the film will be getting the Collector’s Edition treatment, which will be here just in time for the holiday (October 9th).
According to Dread Central, the release will feature newly-commissioned, director-approved artwork – which you can check out below – created by Devon Whitehead. On the reverse side of the packaging will be an alternative piece of theatrical art that “Dougherty asked Scream Factory to include.”
While the specs won’t be announced until September, the Collector’s Edition will feature extras from the previous DVD/Blu-ray release. Additionally, it’ll come with a slipcover “guaranteed for three months after its original release date.” Also, if you pre-order now for early shipping – directly from screamfactory.com – you’ll also receive an 18 x 24 poster of the aforementioned newly-commissioned art. Only 1,000 posters will be produced, though, so be sure to order soon.
Widely regarded as a modern-day horror anthology classic, Trick ‘r Treat sees four spooky, Halloween-related stories interwoven via a common element in the form of Sam, who’s a seemingly supernatural trick-or-treater wearing orange footie pyjamas and a burlap sack over his head.
Inarguably a result of the success of Trick ‘r Treat, director Michael Dougherty has gone on to direct the 2015 comedy horror Krampus – which earned $61.5 million on a production budget of just $15 million – and is now gearing up for undoubtedly his most significant project yet, Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
