Sam Rockwell is in talks to star in MGM and Fox 2000’s upcoming Poltergeist remake, opposite Rosemarie DeWitt. According to The Wrap, Rockwell hasn’t committed just yet as he’s currently looking at a few movie offers. That being said, sources close to the project state that the actor is definitely interested and he’s the filmmaker’s top choice.

Directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House), the film will be scripted by David Lindsay-Abaire, who recently wrote Oz: The Great and Powerful. If the deal goes through, Rockwell will take on the role of father of the Bowen family (replacing the Freeling family from the original), whose daughter is “abducted by supernatural forces that trap her in the netherworld between life and death.”

Honestly, I’m having a bit of a tough time getting excited over this Poltergeist remake because, well, it’s a horror remake and we all know how those usually turn out. That being said, Rockwell is a fantastic actor and is coming off a couple very strong performances (Seven Psychopaths, The Way Way Back). Should he join this upcoming remake, it will certainly bode well for the film, which right now isn’t looking too hot.

Hopefully we’ll have official confirmation in the near future, but I think that Rockwell would be better off choosing something else for his next project.
