Hugh Jackman has lately been doubling down on his commitment to leave his Wolverine days behind him, but while most of us by now are taking him at his word, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds isn’t ready to give up just yet, updating the fans on his push for a Wade Wilson and Logan crossover when he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Speaking to Reynolds, DeGeneres brought up his rivalry with Jackman, before asking if the Australian star would be willing to reprise his most famous role for a Deadpool movie, to which Reynolds responded:
“I would love him to. I would love to do a Deadpool, Wolverine mashup at some point, some kind of Logan thing. I don’t know. He’s on this kick ball change kick right now. I can’t seem to bring him back. I can’t seem to bring him back to the violence and mayhem. I’m trying. I talk to him every other day. Every other, other day he takes the call. But yeah, no, it’s not really a rivalry. It’s war.”
If you’ve been keeping track of the pair’s shared social media history, you’ll likely know what Reynolds is talking about here, with the two actors regularly trading verbal blows, albeit with tongue firmly in cheek.
A couple of weeks ago, for instance, Jackman stated once more that he wasn’t going to do a Deadpool and Wolverine team-up, prompting Reynolds to tweet, “I see [Hugh Jackman] is no longer allergic to selfish.” That same week, Jackman referred to his old X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star as a ‘dag’ in an interview – clarifying that this was another word for ‘goofball’ – in response to Reynolds’ persistent attempts to get him back into the X-Men franchise.
You can expect this ‘war’ between the pair to rage on a while longer, but it looks like this is one battle that Reynolds isn’t winning, as much as the fans and even Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld want to see the pair-up happen. Nonetheless, Wade Wilson has found another co-star in Fred Savage, with Once Upon a Deadpool running in cinemas for two weeks from December 12th.
