Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s ongoing social media feud continues with another tongue-in-cheek putdown from the Deadpool star on Twitter night.
Jackman recently took to social media with a short video celebrating The Greatest Showman’s win for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, with the Wolverine actor shouting out Atlantic Records, songwriting duo Pasek and Paul, and the film’s entire cast and crew for the victory. Reynolds, however, was not impressed, responding to Jackman’s tweet with the hashtag “#ThankHughNext,” in reference to Ariana Grande’s recent single “Thank U, Next.”

Though it’s looking less likely than ever that Jackman might reprise his role as Wolverine for the Deadpool team-up movie that fans still crave, the continuing rivalry between the pair serves as a constant reminder of what could’ve been. Even Reynolds still likes to troll his old X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star with demands that he return to the series, but as the Disney/Fox merger looms closer, you can bet it’s only a matter of time before we see someone else in the role of Logan.
As for who might take over from Jackman, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner mentioned earlier this month that Marvel Studios is looking for a younger actor to play the part, though we probably shouldn’t expect any announcements at least until after the deal comes into effect later this year. You could also say the same about future plans for Deadpool, though recent statements from Disney CEO Bob Iger at least confirm that the company is happy for the Merc with a Mouth to keep making R-rated movies.
In any case, the future for both characters still feels mysterious, though one thing we can be sure of is that the beef between Reynolds and Jackman won’t be letting up anytime soon.
