Ryan Reynolds is now obligated to sneak a joke about ‘The Flash’ bombing into ‘Deadpool 3’

It's too good an opportunity to pass up.

Having developed a habit for roasting his own underwhelming contributions to the superhero genre, the perfect opportunity has presented itself for Ryan Reynolds to fire a shot at The Flash in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming Deadpool 3.

Of course, prior to the entire production being shut down by the actors’ strike the leading man and producer wasn’t allowed to deviate from the original screenplay per the terms of the ongoing action, but as creator Rob Liefeld astutely-if-cynically pointed out, that’s what ADR is for.

Having blasted X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Green Lantern in previous installments, the fact Deadpool 3 just so happens to be a multiversal comic book adaptation starring Reynolds as the fourth wall-breaking Merc with a Mouth means it’s surely too good a chance to pass up for the star to make note of the fact The Flash has failed to surpass his woeful one-and-done outing as Hal Jordan at the domestic box office.

The Scarlet Speedster’s much-heralded arrival is landing on VOD imminently and is no longer part of the Top 10 in the United States, meaning it won’t go any higher than its current haul of $106 million, a full $10 million less than Green Lantern – also one of the biggest bombs in the genre’s entire history – managed to accrue a dozen years ago.

Sure, it might be a little harsh and more than a touch scathing, but that’s Deadpool to a tee, and precisely why it needs to happen should the threequel premiere as scheduled next summer.
